[Worldwide Koi Club] Re:Dechlorinating water

It’s definitely a good idea to dechlorinate the water with a good dechlorinator, and NOT resort to letting the water dechlorinate natures way. Norm Meck is right when he states it takes more than 24 hours for water to fully dechlorinate naturally, BUT, …. if you heavily aerate the water, dechlorination occurs much faster and can take place within the 24 hour period. Even with that, it’s foolish to leave koi in pond water that has not been dechlorinated for even a short term. Chlorine and chloramines levels build up a little more in the fish with each and every exposure to those chemicals, and over time the levels will become fatal to the koi, so it’s best to dechlorinate as each water change is done, and not wait for nature to do it for you.
