[Worldwide Koi Club] Newby with question

Hi laniers03, Ph levels should be maintained between 7.6 and 8.4. Once you get your Ph into the middle of that range, it would be a good idea if you could find some crushed oyster shells to put into your filters. Place them in a very fine net bag (panty hose works good) so they can be spread out over the top of the filter media. The crushed oyster shells act as a buffer to stabilize Ph levels from large changes.
You need to keep the closest watch on the Ammonia and Nitrite levels in the pond. If those toxins aren’t controlled, your fish are in for a real bad time. If you’ve set up an adequately sized biofilter, you won’t have to worry much about the ammonia and nitrite levels once the biofilter is fully activated. The nitrosomonos and nitrobacter bacteria’s that colonize the biofilter media will take care of those two toxins. Don ikeepkoi
