[Worldwide Koi Club] My Koi pond Smells

Hi Vico. When was the last time you did a water change? If you haven’t yet, make a one third water change from the bottom of the pond because that’s where the toxins congregate. Water changes should be done monthly or every six weeks just to keep the nitrates down. It takes approximately six weeks before the bacteria in the filtering system kicks in and your water should start to clear when that happens. Sometimes it happens earlier than that. You might want to cut back on the feeding of your fish to keep the waste down to give the bacteria a chance to build up. It’s important to remember that the size of your filtering system will determine the amount of fish you should have in your pond.
Yours Koily, Lorraine
