[Worldwide Koi Club] Homemade Biofilter advice
I do believe in homemade biofilter because I have created my filtration system. One third of my biofilter consisted of a barrel filter similar to the picture in this link: http://www.enkoi.com/prod57.html Similarly, I use a 55 gal barrel with twice the amount of matting used plus a bag of lava rocks in plant baskets made for water plants like in the picture in the link: http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=5163+5178+5519&pcatid=5519 You can find these plant baskets at any home improvement warehouses.
