[Worldwide Koi Club] DO NOT PUT GOLDFISH OR KOI INTO THE LAKE

[quote] “one needs to use some common sense as to what will actually have a deleterious impact on the environment and not just succumb to knee jerk reactions.” [end of quote]
You’re very right about needing to use “common sense” when considering if you’re going to release koi or any other non-native species of fish into a PUBLIC, pond, stream or river system. The common sense that should be applied is, “Is it LEGAL, …. or Is it NOT LEGAL”. If it’s NOT legal, don’t do it. It’s not worth the trouble you can get into IF you’re caught doing it, …. and it’s not worth taking the chance that the water system the koi (or other non-native fish species) are being released into won’t be adversely effected by their introduction into the system. If you don’t want your fish any more, SELL or GIVE your fish away by posting them on a website like the “www.craigslist.com” site for your specific area. There are tons of people who would jump at the chance to take your koi off your hands. Best regards, Don ikeepkoi
Note: As a retired Police Officer I always believe it’s better to do what’s LEGAL than take the chance of the serious consequences that MAY come from doing what’s NOT LEGAL.
