[Worldwide Koi Club] 36 hours

Hi dennis, sorry for your loss, had the same 2 years ago. I have missed something here, i dont see any post about your trouble, you mentioned imports from japan, you had KHV hit your pond? If so, you cant add anymore to those survivors, EVER, they will be carriers and will infect any new fish you add, once the water temp hits 75f you will lose them again!!! i know, i experienced it. It is said you can, add Israli koi with those infected ones, at least that is the theory at the moment, mag noy vaccinates all thier koy (3″ upwards anyway) and they are not supposed to get KHV, but…… If it wasnt KHV then you should not add new fish this year, make sure those that survied stay free for the rest of this season, and start over next year, only other parasite i know of that would do so much damage in a short time is “tricodina” displays similer symptoms to KHV and just as deadly in an over crowded or heavily stocked pond, those fish that are still alive are still covered in them, so you need to treat them fast and for a few weeks to make sure they are free of the parasite before you add new ones, or they will face a similer threat, tricodina is opertunist parasite and treatable, KHV isnt. If you think you may have had KHV in your pond, then kill those fish you have left, its to risky for future stocks, even those said to be vaccinated.
Dennis wrote: Well I finaly hit 36 hours without a fish loss. Now if the trend continues how long do you think it should be before I can safely start replacing some of the fish. I have 1800 gallons and three Koi left.
Remaining ate one Kohaku, and two Muji (one white and one black) they are all between 4″ and 6″. The lost ones that hurt me the most were loosing at least a dozen Shiro Bekko and almost a dozen Showa. The Hikari I lost at least can be easily found localy which are one of favorate varieties when mized with other varieties in the same pond.
I’m hoping for a long term population of about 12 to 18 Koi. With probably 6 more added this summer if I can find some colors I like. Sorry no more imports from Japan for me unless I set up a holding system of at least 10 gallons per fish incomming. But some of those fish were unbelievable compared to what I commonly see localy.
