Well, let me rephrase it. I can create the pond, but we would have to put up a fence and our HOA only seems to like the ugliest ones. My wife and I hate fences. So, now we are very limited to only 18″ of depth. Could I get away with making a channel at the bottom that is 3ft in depth and runs the length of the bridge, but cover it with a pipe of some sort that is cut in half length wise? THis gives the fish a place to hang out if it gets to hot or if thre are predators around. Also, it will make the whole floor of the pond 18″. Or am I going to create a permit issue and should scrap that idea and just ‘live with’ an 18″ depth all around?
So no new koi will go into the pond we are building, only the koi we have. Second, the goldfish will go to an indoor aquarium or will be given away here (yes, free since I didn’t pay for them originally) or on Craigslist.
I am figuring 50ft of head based on Aqua Ultima II 4000 (needs 10ft for back wash), Savio Waterfall 31″ weir, Aqua UV and 40ft of flex PVC and 3 ft in rise to waterfall. Or is 60ft excessive. I want to make sure during backwashing I have enough pressure and the waterfall will always provide a good strong current since it is starting from a height of 3 ft and is very wide.)
The system is now changed: Pump - Sequence Sequel GinRin (massive head and flow). What do you guys think of Pondmaster or Tsurumi?
UV - same 40w Aqua (no wiper)
Filter - Aqua Ultima II 4000 (instead of 6000)
Savio skimmer and waterfall and the bottom drain have not changed.
I will be adding more airstones and a larger capacity airpump for them.
Please excuse the bit of rambling… I’m rather upset of these ludicrous rules the city came up with so they can force more permits since the level of permits has gone down so much in the past 6 months. (I guess they have to find a way to make money… even speeding ‘revenue’ is down.)
Best regards, Peter
Peter, I don’t know of any city that will essentially let you put in a “pool” without fencing it. That’s for the safety of the neighborhood, children, you and to keep your insurance rates low as well. So all benefit from this code, BUT that your Association tells you what type of fence you can put in urkes the heck out of me. They want everyone to be the same. You could ask for a variance as long as what you choose isn’t totally awful, they should grant it unless you have some “click” running the organization. I would try approaching them first before you assume you are stuck with 18″. You won’t be happy with it I assure you. Sue
