Where to Give Baytril Shots on Koi
Hi Ron, Go to this link to get the info needed. The pictures are a bit small, but the info and dosage charts are very accurate for the Baytril, Azactim, and Amakacin injectables. http://www.raleighlandscape.com/Koi%20Bacterial%20Infections.htm
The injection spot shown on that website is probably the best one to use in most cases. Syringes that are 3CC 25gauge 5/8 are used most often for the injections of koi larger than 10 inches. Smaller syringes are used for smaller 4 to 10 inch fish. The injection should be inserted at the mid-point between the vent (anus) and the ventral fins, and slightly to the left or right side of an imaginary line between them. The needle should be slowly inserted (not stabbed) at about a 10-degree angle pointing toward the head. Inject the antibiotic very slowly, then remove the needle while keeping finger pressure on the injection site to prevent any accidental scale removal. (if a scale does come off, it will most likely grow back). Best regards, Don ikeepkoi
