Unusual Fish Photo

Here, hopefully, you will be able to see a photo of a fish that will not be seen in the hobby, but is rather unusual looking, and would probably be popular with the marine crowd, were it available. The fish is _Macropinna microsoma_, and apparently grows to about 4.5″–the largest size measurement I found–fishbase.org lists it at about 50% of that size. The common name appears to be barrel eye. This photo appears in _Copeia_, 2008, No. 4, December 2008.

This is also a rare photo in that most captured specimens do not show the bubble over the head, apparently it is crushed during capture or broken when brought to the surface.
Please note that I had to log in to this site to get to the article, and then to the picture. When I brought the image up in another browser, a log in was not requested, so I think you should be able to reach it.
