[UniQuaria] Water change = dying fish

> Last weekend I did a 25% water change using tap water and de-chlorinating solution. Soon after, my fish started dying. They’ve been hanging around at the top of the tank and aren’t swimming as much. The goldfish were losing their colour, and most fishes fins were decaying, they looked like their find were turning into spider webs. > Sounds like your water authority has added something to your water (lime, copper, chloramine, or something else). I would call your water authority and ask what, if anything, they have added. What is the pH of your tank and tap water? What was the difference in water temperature between your water change water and your tap water? What brand of chlorine remover did you use, and at what dose? > So my question is - if I use bottled water for my next water change, do I still need to use the de-chlorinating solution? No. There should be no chlorine in bottled water. > What about with distilled water (the local brewery has a tap for public access and a small fee, but I need a bottle so will buy the bottled water the first time). > If you are using distilled, you’ll need to add minerals back into it. Distilled water alone is not good for fish. Products like RO Right (Kent Marine) can be used to add back the minerals removed by distillation.
