[UniQuaria] question on air pumps; airstones

The “Expert” must have a heavily planted tank where high amounts of cO2 are desired. In a goldfish tank you NEED that aeration to break the surface tension of the water. Oxygen exchange occurs at the waters surface. Still or motionless water has very low oxygen exchange.

Please make sure you have the air stones going or a strong enough filter to cause the same effect on the waters surface.

I read an article by an “expert” on another site that said airstones were “bad” because they force the CO2 out of the water.? When I tried unplugging mine, my goldfish got lethargic and all hovered at the side of the tank where I was sitting staring at me like “Hey, what did you do?”? I plugged it back in and they went about their normal fish lives again.
?
So what IS the consensus on air pumps and airstones?
Thanks -
?
