Hmmm…..malachite green doesn’t affect most plants. Acriflavin does, though, although it’s not a commonly used medication anymore.

IMO, copper should never be used on freshwater fishes anyway. Too much of a chance of toxicity, especially in softer water. Some folks claim that malachite green is not safe for scaless fishes, but this is not at all true. Using the proper dose, it is perfectly safe (remember, I treat all my incoming fishes (loaches, catfish, Rasboras, tetras, etc) with malachite green). Malachite green is also safe for inverts.
It seemed like salt and extra heat were a lot safer all around.
Providing the salt is used at the proper level, yes.
I'm also not particularly interested in my tank being dyed blue or green.
Understandable. You could also use formalin, although I am not a big fan of this chemical. Metronidazole may also have some effect on this parasite, although I am not fully convinced of its effectiveness, especially as an oral medication. Flubendazole may also have anti-ich properties, and has shown some promise in the treatment of ich. Down side to these chemicals is that some inverts may be killed by them.
All of these will not color the water.
