[UniQuaria] Feeder guppies

Hm… Our store doesn’t carry feeder platies. We have two choices - feeder guppies and feeder goldfish. Small store. One of only two within 50 miles.
But that doesn’t mean I can’t raise some of my own. ;-) I’m going to see about doing them and/or regular guppies. I don’t want the disease issues, but I also don’t want to be throwing money down the drain by buying a bunch of fish that don’t even make it through quarantine.

Dawn, feeder guppies are so loaded with disease organisms that it’s surprising they survive as long as they do. We stopped using them as live food as they come in with monogeneans, digeneans, Saprolegnia (fungus), and bacterial fin rot. They are not worth the effort, IMO. Sometimes, if a batch looks somewhat good, raising the salinity to 3-5 ppt will slow the death rate. Ask your LFS to get you some feeder platies. They are much healthier and do not have the disease problems that guppies do.
