[UniQuaria] Big Pleco


Hi Shelley,
55 is a bit small for this guy but if it is the same length as the 75 he should be ok for a few months. You are going to want to keep up with the weekly water changes, make sure he has hiding places and some wood to munch on. I would also use the same filter you are using for the 75 gal if you can. A fish this size puts out a lot of waste.
Don’t try to use nets to move him. He could easily get tangled and hurt. When I moved my pleco to larger quarters, I removed all the rocks and wood and most of the plants, lowered the water level down to about 6 inches then laid the bucket I use for water changes on it’s side on one end of the tank. Then I used the nets just to herd him into the bucket and stood the bucket up. After that it was easy to pour him into the new tank. I also used the water from the old tank to fill the new tank.
