Thinking of venturing into a saltwater tank for the 1st time
I cannot agree more with this J (Its very usual for Giancarlo’s post though). Personally I have found it easy enough for the last few months except for a couple of fish that I bought on an impulse buy that are a pain to feed (Mandarin)

I agree, they are easier in most cases, however far more expensive, sensitive and needy than freshwater aquariums. The natural Berlin method (live rock + skimmer) plus refugium is the best way to go, be it fish only or reef (live corals). Patience and research are key!
The following links can be a handful to read but are very helpful in understanding some of the key concepts:

I have somewhat of a build log for my most recent reef tank, as you can see it took me 6 months before I was ready to fill it with water
My first reef tank took close to a year to perfect. Obviously I have too much patience!

Right now, you should decide on size and type (fish only or reef). We all know larger is better, and it’s even more true in saltwater tanks where pollution is measured in fractions of the levels we consider safe in freshwater.
Let us know and we’ll take it step by step from there.
