Tank Still “Sick”

A few weeks back, I posted about my sick tank. After losing 2 angels, an albino rainbow shark and a platty the tank seemed to settle down. All levels (ammonia, nitrates and nitrites) tested at zero, even when everything was dying. After no deaths for several weeks, I purchased 4 zebra danios and a male platty to go with the 2 females already in the tank. Well, one of the old platties died two days ago and a danio is about to go. Some of the fish that died looked perfectly healthy, others looked “velvety.”
I just did a water change (20%) and medicated the tank with coppersafe and maracyn (the coppersafe instructions said to use the maracyn simultaneously). Although I kept several anks years ago, I never had the need to use any medications. I don’t have a hospital tank, and frankly I think all my fish need to be treated, as even the healthy-looking ones are dying. Will the treatments I used cause the good bacteria to die? Will I have to re-cycle the tank?
One more thing, when I did the water change, I removed the cartridge from the filter (Penguin 150), slit it open and removed all the charcoal. I then rinsed the cartridge in the water I drained from the tank, placed it back into the filter and medicated the tank.
