Sick Tank
No, that reply did not sound right to me either. Did you ever say what size tank it is? You said you have plattys and at least one angel - and personally I had to pass on angels because of their need for a very big tank and the nipping thing. I’m not sure why I’d want to start over. My tank has completely cycled. I do regular water changes and have not had any detectable ammonia, nitrates or nitrites since January. The water is crystal clear and I have not had any visible algae since I added a plechostomus and reduced the lighting to 10 hours per day.
I agree that there may be a bacteria, virus or parasite affecting my fish, but the problem is not due to an uncycled tank. And, I doubt that chlorine is the problem as I always add Stress Coat with water changes and only the first fish to die had ragged fins. Two of the three that died this week looked perfectly healthy. The third had 2 spots (round spots that looked like missing scales) but no ragged fins.
There’s got to be a better solution than starting over.
