Sick Tank
Thanks Laurie for the information and it seems that you were planning a community tank - one where the fish got along, were interesting looking and were colorful. In a 28g tank you should be very selective about the fish you choose. It seems large, but it can only hold so many fish and maintain those fish in their peak condition. First, the tank was not big enough for angels - sorry - it would take at least a 50 - 75g and they tend to be aggressive even among themselves. Platties were a good choice - they are peaceful, as well as the corys. The pleco will get a little large, but still ok, as well as the rasboras. However, the rainbow shark was territorial and aggressive too. So, there were some incompatible fish in the tank - under a lot of stress - add in the temperature drop - and you lost fish. In the meantime, I would keep the tank clean, rethink your fish choices, maybe add a few plants and remember that less is more. Good luck. Its a 28 gallon tank. Right now, it contains 2 platties, 2 cory cats, a small pleco (bristle nose, I believe), and 4 rasbora tetras. The following have all dies in the past 10 days: 2 small/med angels, 1 platty, and 1 small albino rainbow shark.
Everyone in the tank looks healthy, but so did one of the angels and the shark that died.
One thing I haven’t mentioned. Three weeks ago, my cleaning woman unplugged the heater when she plugged in the vacuum cleaner. She didn’t plug in the heater when she was finished and I did not discover it for at least a day. I live in Northern Virginia, so the temp didn’t drop a huge amount, but it fell at least 5 degrees, maybe a bit more.
