Jade,
I raise BN plecos and mystery snails. Both are good tank cleaners. If you are interested in some, let me know. I know I should be going to Merr. next month some time for a Dr. appt. We could possibly meet.

Helloooooo I was wondering, being as Plecos aren’t exactly something I specialize in, what can I get to clean the algae off of my tank without also eating my lovely plants? I’ve heard that Rubbernose plecos are good because they stay small, and I have only a 20gal tank. Some recommended a few other types, […]

I was scratching my head wondering what Pearlweed was, then I saw it was Hemianthus micranthemoides. Why didn’t you just say Hemianthus micranthemoides in the first place. LOL
I did a quick Google of Hemianthus micranthemoides looking for some other plant profile pages and I saw in some of the Google summary’s that it’s often […]

OK, a cryptic subject, to be sure. However, I thought some may have interest in looking at this paper.
Seashells: the Plainness and Beauty of Their Mathematical Descriptions [pdf] http://mathdl.maa.org/mathDL/23/?pa=content&sa=viewDocument&nodeId=3294
How do plants and animals grow, one might ask? Jorge Picado of the Universidade de Coimbra recently looked into the question of how seashells grow, and has […]

Hi Brenda (and Karen),
I also use the stake and lines to deter herons but find one has to do it just right. My herons must be smarter than yours because they will crouch to go under or step over the lines if they aren’t exactly the right height. I […]

Dear Karen,
I don’t have ledges or shelves in my pond; the sides are fairly steep in fact, and this keeps the skunks and raccoons at bay, as well as the neighbourhood cats. The herons are a greater challenge, however, because we’re just a few houses away from a very large lake (Lake […]

Karen,
Other than herons I’ve never had a problem. I think that is due to my ponds being too deep and steep sided for predators to go in after the fish. And I have bears in my yard regularly too!
