Question: How are Amazon Gray parrots getting into the country? They’re sold at Petsmart. Couldn’t be if they cuoldn’t be imported.

I don’t speak up very often in here, but I can share from a perspective as a parrot owner. The parrot trade and aviculture was affected in similar fashion almost 20 years ago with the Wild Bird Conservation Act, which reads very similarly to this HR669.

Look up the bill and read it. It is downright scary. Pretty much, if a species is not listed, it is invasive, and it is a complex process to get through to list a critter, and it is to occur in a very short time span. Read the bill for the particulars.

It actually lists a whole bunch of animals besides dogs and cats, including goldfish and “or any other species or variety of species that is determined by the Secretary to be common and clearly domesticated.” That should cover most animals (including fish) that people typically keep as pets.
