Yeah they can be hard to get rid of. I have at times covered them with Kalk paste. Kalk Paste was the only thing that solved my lobophora problem, I was ready to cook the rock until I tried it…
Worth a shot, if you have a serious infestation you may need to combine a couple […]

Hi Giancarlo,
SO far only Joes juice seems to be working in reducing the numbers along with kalkwasser (calcium hydroxide) but after going through 3 bottles of Jues juice, they have not been eradicated completely. I guess I will be persistant with Joes Juice.

One of those times where a picture would be worth a thousand words… Have you tried doing a google image search for “larvae” or similar to see if anything resembles what’s in your tank? First things that come to mind are mosquito larvae and such… Can you describe the way they move perhaps?
Just […]

That is a long time, I don’t think any wafers make it past 10 minutes in my tanks… I would certainly try the vegetables as they can last a day or two if uneaten and are easily removed. I would add half a wafer at lights out each night, it may get them used to […]

That’s odd, Hikari algae wafers don’t fall apart tipically… did they sit for a long time not being eaten? All my fish go for them… In any way, try to put one or two in after lights out. Sliced cucumber works well too, the ottos attach to it during the night. Whatever is left in […]

That was good! lol
Here’s a site that suggests 1tsp per 5 liters… it’s likely accurate enough for the initial task of setting an acceptable salinity level. http://theaquariumwiki.com/Brackish http://theaquariumwiki.com/Salt
Maintaining that salinity long term will be harder without a way to measure it.
Hope that helps Giancarlo

Giancarlo, quit arguing silly arguments with me, and tell me how many teaspoons of water per gallon to meet your definition of the term brackish.

Another problem with going strictly by a certain measurement of salt per a measurement of water is that after a few water changes your salinity is likely to be different than what you started with. Also, brackish water is really a minimum for the long term health of green spotted puffers. […]

Dora, the reason why you are having difficulties finding out how many teaspoons of salt are required for brackish water is likely because that is not a good way to maintain proper salinity. Not all salts are equal and not all brands are identical in dosing amounts.
If it’s brackish you want, you need to choose […]

These are brackish water fish, tollerant enough to freshwater for some periods of time, but it won’t be good for them in the longrun. You should absolutely be using some salt. Also note it must be salt used to prepare seawater, not “Aquarium Salt” that is commonly used as a general tonic for freshwater fish. […]
