UV sterilizers are very helpful in koi ponds. I do think that is very much a FW application. As for their use in FW aquariums, they are probably not worth the cash outlay in most instances.

I don’t think they hurt anything, but I also don’t think they are necessary, at least not for freshwater.

I am in South east Alaska on an island, I’m even more south than Wasilla. It’s definitely beautiful up here that’s for sure, but way isolated compared to the rest of the united states.

Most people pour the chlorine remover that they are using (start right, stress coat, prime, etc), into the tank just before they start filling up the tank, it will start to do it’s job right away and it won’t harm the fish.
