Bill you don’t have chlorine or chloramine in your water right? I know you have a well so I doubt that you do, well Prime is going to have something in it that’s supposed to fight chlorine or chloramine as well as ammonia, if you’re using it on a tank with no […]

Okay so what everyone has said is only add enough prime to treat the water you are adding to the tank, so since you have not used any dechlor product as of yet, I would add enough to treat the whole tank when you get the prime (or whatever heavy metal dechlor […]

So if the heavy metals don’t get used up or evaporate then I suppose an initial dose with prime would be what Bill wants to do for his whole tank if he has not been using anything so far. Bill have you used any dechlor products at all yet?

No, heavy metals do not evaporate. The EDTA in dechlor products is a chelating agent that binds with the heavy metals to make them non-toxic.
Not that this Wiki will explain it any simpler but… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethylenediaminetetraacetic_acid and this one explains some more about EDTA… http://scifun.chem.wisc.edu/chemweek/Chelates/Chelates.html.

I think you might be mis-reading some forum posts.
When refilling a tank directly from a faucet, like when using a Python Water Change System, there is NO NEED to add a full tank dose of dechlor. Only add enough dechlor for the amount of water being replaced. You DO want to add this […]

OK. Only because I’ve seen this many times over the years…. double check your testing procedures. Take a peek at the instruction book to make sure you are testing properly. Make sure you are shaking the bottles for at least 10-30 seconds.. even if it doesn’t say to do this.
If you are […]

I have seen both Hanna & Pinpoint recommended to others by others. I was told Hanna makes the better of the two.

As most know, we talk about how it’s a good idea and almost mandatory that fish keepers buy a Master Test Kit on an annual basis. We’re talking as low as $15 to $20. U.S. a year, compared to the much higher cost of medicines, etc., if/when the fish get sick.
Occasionally, someone will mention […]
