Hi Steve and Claire. So sorry to hear about your Koi. The same thing happened to us one year. The Koi were all at the bottom of the pond when we came out in the morning and I just knew that something had to be wrong because they usually swim on top […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] couple of questions?????

Hi Rachael, good question. I used to have a very large pond but because we are planning on moving, we shut down that pond along with the others. Now I have some Koi in the pond behind our garage and because the pond is only about 200 gallons, my Koi are quite small. […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] puncture wound

The quickest method of killing a koi  (or any fish) is to bash it across  the back of its head, just inline with the top of the gills, death is instant……..so a heron strike close to that point may well cause some brain damage, or at the very least nerve damage, other than treating the […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] Open gash

[Worldwide Koi Club] Vacation feeding, once a week

How long is the vacation?
Koi can go for a week or two without food but better to have a neighbor drop over every couple days to feed them.
Main problem might be making sure filter and pump are running properly.

Rachael,
Koi typically get along quite well. I don’t know about the stock tank however. Sounds pretty iffy.

[Worldwide Koi Club] DO KOIS GROW TO THE SIZE OF THEIR ENVIRONMENT??

Hi Rachel, All koi will get along just fine with each other. The only issue they may have is when they get old enough to spawn and there are male and female koi together in the pond. Nature will take its course and they will get ULTRA friendly until spawning is over. […]

[Worldwide Koi Club] Major disease wipes out 40 Koi

Hi,
The ulcers on the body and mouth rots are infections caused by bacteria.  Normally, if the water quality is poor, the fish immunity system weakens.  Therefore, this allow the bacteria in the surrounding to attack the fish and begin to eat from the fish slim coat to the scales to the skin and finally the […]
