That page talks about everything from a pipe to a river/stream. When the river/stream narrows, the water runs much faster, then when it widens, it runs slower.. but still the same volume of water. I think that the pump trying to push water 3′ up a 3″ pipe would be three times harder work than the pump pushing water 3′ up a 1″ pipe. Less weight to push up but it would be the same volume so it would just push it up more easily. If pump head pressure wasn’t an issue, then the rest of this could be moot.
I think as long as the pipe is at least the same diameter as the pump outlet, there wouldn’t be much loss but if you did go with a larger diameter pipe on the horizontal and then go back to a 1″ upflow pipe, it would pump the same volume of water up the 1″ upflow pipe. The downside of the 3″ upflow pipe.. or 2 1/2″.. is that the pump’s head pressure may not be able to push that up as easily. I’m only bringing all of this up since you said it had 4200gph at 1′ rise.. or something like that. The OP has disappeared from the email thread.
As far as your 20′ cord.. I just presumed there was an electrical outlet at least 20′ from the placement of the pump. The piping has nothing to do with the length of the cord. If there’s no outlet, then the rest of this is wasted since the pump won’t run. LOL
