Questions for Oscar lovers and owners…
I feel like all I ever do is ask questions! So here is my Oscar story and my questions… I just got back into aquariums as a hobby 2 months ago, and of course my first fish had to be an Oscar. I had some as a teen, and liked their personalities. I currently have a 5 inch Tiger Oscar in a 55 gallon tank with a 4 inch Jack Dempsey. Originally I had two tigers, but one died within a week of me getting it, so I got the Jack. Poseidon (the oscar) and Jack the pumpkin king (the jack) get along well, and seem to recognize I or my husband when we turn the light on and feed, but Lately Posi (for short) has been acting stressed, if I turn on the light and there are more than 2 people in the room his colors fade to grey and he hides in the corner. Same reaction when my Mastiff is in the room. Can they recognize people? Or is it just the flare of the light setting him off? If I walk by the tank he aqua stalks me acting like he is starving. They have a varied diet, chichlid balls, flakes, bloodworms, shredded lettuce, and beef heart. He is not starving. It is funny. Any advice on Oscars and the personalities, and why he fades to grey? I think it’s stress? P.S. Posi was 3 inches when I got him so he has grown 2 inches in 2 months, I do regular water changes (25% one week, almost 50 the next week) and test the p.h. Seems happy other than the abrupt color changes and hiding in the corner of the tank.
