Questions for Oscar lovers and owners…

I haven’t had an Oscar for years now, but I do notice that my Severum (also a New world cichlid) is very touchy. When I feed him if I move my hand too fast over the top of the tank he scoots away a bit and waits to see if it’s safe. He watches me very closely too as I walk by his tank and is always acting hungry as well (common in fish though, LOL), I think they are just more observant than other kinds of fish and he’s obviously reacting to something in the room. Is the tank dark when you turn on the room light? Do you have driftwood or anything in the tank that he could hide behind to make himself feel more secure? I’m still trying to get my severum to hand feed from me, but I think he’s still just a little too shy for it, and I’ve had him for 3 months, LOL. Or maybe I’m not feeding him anything that he really wants to eat from my hand ;) If I stick my hand in the tank with my danio’s all of them think that my hand is food, good thing my Severum notices a difference in fingers to food ;) LOL. I haven’t noticed if any of my pets scare my Severum, but none of my pets can really get up to the tank (it’s 125 gallon tank and they would have to climb the couch and hang off the side of the couch against the tank to possibly bother any of the fish, and the tank is over a foot away from the couch, my jack russell wouldn’t stand a chance getting to the tank with his short little legs, LOL). I do notice that my cats like to watch the fish of course, by they don’t get close to the tank, just sit on the back of the couch and watch.
