Yes, They MOST CERTAINLY recognize people — especially their owners (feeders). This is more notable with the New World Cichlids, although the small Cichlid species should not be excluded, nor should Cichlids of the other continents. For that matter, this behavior will be seen in many other species as well. Your Oscar may well be stressed from the appearance of unfamiliar people and dogs — any other different stimuli affecting its environment. Ray
