[Ponds-Koi] Priming external pond pump
David, Thanks, I have a de-chlorine canister connected to my hose. Also, since my pump will be connected to my pondmaster presurrized filter, can I put the check valve towards the filter? Last time when I turned off the pump, too much water entered the filter and burst my canister. They are so expensive to replace. Thanks again for your assistance.

It looks like your pump is very close to the water level in the pond so getting a prime should not be a problem. Gate valves or ball valves (not check valves) should be used both before and after the pump. This way you can isolate the leaf basket and clean it with out draining the filters or the pond. Using hose water is not good as it usually has chlorine in it and if the pump feeds the filter you would be exposing your filter media (bacteria colony) to the fresh chlorine. I have to rinse my 2 leaf baskets about every other day and use the head in my system to back flush the pump and leaf basket.
