My pond (4yrs old) looks like pea soup! I’ve never seen algea growth like this. The chemicals (copper something or other)I bought to treat it says that it will kill plants but is OK for the fish and frogs. If I remove the plants and then treat how soon can I put the plants back in? Thanks Sandy
Sandy do you have Koi in that pond? If so, NO COPPER whatsoever please. Copper, even at low levels, will kill koi. I’m not sure about golides as I don’t keep goldfish so I would be careful using this. Actually it’s quite common for a pond to “cycle” this time of year. Is the pond clean? Have you tested for Phosphorous and NitrAtes both in the pond and your tap water? Both are fertilizer for all plants including algae. Are you feeding fish now? What is the water temp? If you kill off the algae, it only stays in the system only it’s dead now….decomposing….causing yet another bloom. If you have ample filtration you don’t usually see this unless the pond is cycling.
