[Ponds-Koi] do koi get lice!

Hi, I have spent most of my time lurking. I have one koi, I was told it was a showa, that has white fins, and now is showing up with some blemishes on it fins. One on the tail and about 2 or 3 smaller on the dorsal. They are thicker than the fins, so they are not as transparent and that’s the only reason I notice them. None of the other fish have them. Could they just be normal blemishes that I hadn’t noticed before, or are they something that I may need to be concerned about.
I live in southern BC Canada and have about a 1000g watergarden. I have 2 koi and 3 shubunkins. The koi are both about 12 inches now and the shubunkins about 6. They have all been in the pond about 1 1/2 years, and the pond has been in almost 2 years now. We are just coming out of winter here and have been feeding wheat germ for about 4 weeks. The waterfall/filter run all year. Our nights are about 45 and the days are warmer. The water tests all appear to be within normal ranges(tested with the drop bottles), I can give you numbers later as I will check again this afternoon. I also know, and bought the koi knowing, that they will outgrow my pond. I have an arrangement that should we not enlarge the pond, that they will be exchanged for smaller fish in the future.
Your ideas would be much appreciated,
Lori

Lori, just exactly what do the blemishes look like? Drops of wax? Cream colored or dark? Are they moving around? Any chance you can get a photo and send? To answer the question in your subject line, yes fish can get lice!! They can be seen by the naked eye although they are small. Darker in color and will move around. Sue
