Pond worms photos
Hi. all
I’m replying to my own message because I’ve just posted 2 photos in my “Dave’s Pond” album of the worms that I described. My guess is that they are midge larvae, but they are definitely dark brown to black. Some articles claim that midge larvae are red and called “Blood Worms.” These worms definitely are not red. Another article suggested that worms that are this dark are actually Black Fly larvae. I guess none of them are harmful to fish and, in fact, are a good source of food for the fish.
Everyone agree with this? Can anyone add something for me. Incidentally, I have a DSLR with a 1:1 closeup lens that I used to take the pictures I posted. They show up larger than life size in the images. They really are only about 1/4″ long. When they stretch, they can reach nearly 1/2″.
