pH question


For a proper PH reading yes, the water should be let to rest overnight, ideally aerated. Tap water being under pressure can contain far more CO2 than it would normally, this additional CO2 brings the PH down. Overnight the CO2 will outgas and stabalize at atmospheric concentrations, this will give you an accurate PH reading to expect once the water is in the tank. If a quick reading is required, test KH instead as that is what governs PH in non-CO2 enriched tanks. You will be able to get an idea of the eventual PH from the KH reading.
So “if” your tap water is one of the ones that contain high CO2 levels, your actual PH may be a little higher than you tested…
