OT for Ray—–Yo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\\Steve//—help here please!
Ray, My hubby is a computer type guy, too. Does that stuff for a living. Anyway, I wanted to pipe in here just a minute if you don’t mind a bit more info. First, the problem could be your Windows 98 since some things aren’t going to be compatible these days. I know most things should be backwards compatible, but not everything will be and that can be a bit of an issue. We have another computer wiz friend who finally gave up his 98 and got a new machine just this past year because of the problems. Second, if it’s just an OS problem and you don’t want to deal with the problems you have been hearing about re XP or VISTA and you don’t want to spend money right now, have you thought about downloading LINUX? It’s free, compatible to just about everything and I don’t know anyone who has trouble with it. Best of all, there’s lots of user groups out there who will give you free support. I can get you a download site if you want it. If you do want it, e-mail me off list and I’ll go ask one of our friends who use LINUX for the site address. Third, though XP can look different than 98, you can set it up to work the same way as 98. I did not learn that little trick until I had already learned the new way to use XP, but I am glad to pass the info on to others now that I know. This means you wouldn’t have a whole lot of new learnin’ to do if you can still get XP. I don’t know whether Vista is the same way and so I cannot speak to that issue. Last, you might want to keep and eye out at places like TigerDirect.com, halfprice.com, etc. to find good deals on computers in addition to the usual places. You can find some good deals there. No, I don’t own any stock in them or know anyone who works there, I just know where my husbands geek friends all talk about buying stuff. I hope that helps. Deb
