OT for Ray
Ray,
You should check with your local library or Senior Center… not implying you’re a senior but you did mention you’ve been keeping fish for 60 years.. lol… anyhow, many libraries and other non-profits offer free basic computer classes and it’s a good place to learn all the basics… especially if you’re not even familiar with your computer’s basic word processor and the copy/paste applications yet.
All Windows (probably Mac’s too) computers come with a basic word processor which you could open when getting ready to compose something long. If you are having internet connection problems which are causing you to lose your long posts, then you could compose them on your own computer’s word processing program like WordPad or NotePad, both found in your Start>All Programs>Accessories section… and then save the document as a file on your desktop. After you’ve proofed your writing (more advanced word processors like MS-Word also offer Spell-Check, Grammar and Composition checking also), then you could copy/paste it to the Yahoo Group’s post field and hit the send button. If something fails on your internet connection and the post doesn’t get sent properly, you still have your long writing saved as a file on your desktop so you could just re-copy/paste it and send it again. In computer lingo, the “Desktop” is actually just the monitor… kind of envision your monitor laying flat and you have your work spread out on it… after you’re done sending it, the saved file, currently saved on your desktop, it could be moved to an actual file folder in your My Documents folder after you’re done with it or just move it to your Recycle Bin (the trash can on your desktop).
If you want to learn more about computing, feel free to email me off-list and I’ll be happy to walk you through these things. \Steve// is also very knowledgeable… but I don’t want to volunteer his computer help services without his permission. ![]()
Of course, there are Yahoo Groups for all of these computer user things as well. CHAD is a good one for general computer user questions and help but still has a wide range of users so you can get a reliable answer to almost any question, whether newbie or geek-speak about anything to do with computers… http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Computer_Help_And_Discussion and it’s a fairly busy group with about 3,000 members and around 1,000 messages a month so you’ll have the opportunity to read and learn from others mistakes.
Fish… darn.. second post today where I almost didn’t mention fish. ![]()
