OT for Ray

Window’s Vista Home Premium and above seem to be working fine for home computer users with clean installs. I haven’t had a single problem with my laptop that I couldn’t attribute to 3rd party software or my own ignorance of the new OS… mainly the UAC. All of the programs that I run on a regular basis, like IE-7 and OL-2003, security programs, etc., have worked without a problem once I took a minute to learn about the UAC security/protection on Vista. Now some others like Yahoo Messenger (which is usually problematic on any computer) gave me some tech issues yesterday with Runtime errors but I quickly figured out the problem was Yahoo Plug-Ins and eliminated them (I also help folks on the Yahoo_Messenger Yahoo Group and helped at least one other person having this same issue).
Window’s Vista Ultimate even beat out Mac’s OSX-10 in a hacker-resistant contest in 2008 but Linux was the ultimate victor of the contest as the safest OS. Mac’s OSX-10 failed in the first day where Window’s Vista didn’t fail until they started allowing secondary programs as gateways into the OS.. Are there still lots of programs that won’t run on Vista? Yes.. just like there were lots of programs that did not run on XP when it came out. Are there still kinks that need to be worked out.. yep.. just like on every new OS that has ever come out, regardless of the creator of the OS… but five years from now, when Microsoft’s new OS is all that’s available, we’ll all be saying… “Keep Vista.. it’s perfect and everything works with it”.. and then the cycle will continue.
For folks needing a new home computer to do what most home users do, it’s fine… as long as they’re not trying to run non-Vista compatible software and realize that even some of the software will still have bugs. I understand there’s still a lot of kinks with the popular business software but oftentimes.. and most likely, it’s the user who creates many of the problems and then blames it on Microsoft. Also, because of the UAC, less people will install crap on their computers that makes so much trouble for the rest of us trying to keep ours clean.
For folks that tried to install Vista on top of XP… well they should remember back when any other OS was installed on top of an existing OS and the problems that occurred. While it can be done, it’s best to start off clean.

I’m glad you give away your NJ swampland… I sell mine down here… interested??? And you even get some nice surfing action a couple of times a year, cutting and carving through all the cypress trees all the way up to N’Awlins. It’s all in how you sell it! ;-)
