OT for Ray
Hello guys, Just want you guys to know I appreciate all of your concerns and suggestions regarding my plight, including support from my fellow club members, senior centers and software recommendations from all posts up until 8:24 last night. I’ll take them all under consideration, and while I’d just prefer to get this machine running as intended I’m sure I need to buy a new machine as this one is plain getting old — with memory capacity limited to what can be expected of it; still I fail to see why it can’t operate at least decently the way it was designed to when first marketed - but I think the time has come to up-grade. Even without being a ‘puter wiz, I’m sure its problems are internal and not due to anything internet related.
These problems may be fixable, as I’ve had the machine in for similar- problem repairs from time to time but I can’t see dumping more money into it when its capacity is limited anyway. With the market’s recent encouraging rise over the last few sessions, hopefully that time may not be too far off. Just as the current financial situation has affected so many others, my portfolio has similarly been down about 32% since September and I just don’t feel comfortable getting a big (or medium) ticket item at this time, not that I couldn’t. Its probably more psychological that this recession is bothering me rather than an actuality, since my situation hasn’t really changed; I’ll no doubt splurge for this need of something newer sooner than later — just old ingrained ways of thinking from early experiences during the War that sometimes brings out the frugality in me (LOL). I’m seeing where Dell is offering some nice deals on PC’s and I’ve also been looking at Gateway as a good product.
As I still have the Windows 98 software, and am so used to its operation, I’m just wondering if I should install that OS in a new computer with all the controversy I see about other OS’s, or would I just be limiting a new PC’s abilities? I don’t want to get an OS that would give me more problems than its worth in getting used to it. Anyway, for the time being, I’ll be struggling with this beast until I make myself reach deeper into the pockets (hopefully soon). Many thanks for all the help, Ray
