Light fixture flickering after Hurricane Dolly power outage

Hi Giancarlo,
I do appreciate your patience and helpfulness with this. I think the hurricane put me on edge more than I realized, since I didn’t first think of checking the bulb/tube. A few minutes ago ago, I switched the tube out with a known good one from another fixture. It worked fine! Now I have ordered replacement/spare tubes to have on hand. It was also an excuse to order a couple of other items I could use but were too small to justify the shipping charge. I ordered from an online outfit which gave me free shipping and since I’ve already had success in ordering from them before, I feel relief. I imagine the fish in that tank (small tetras) feel some relief too, to be in their normal amount of light now.
This experience confirmed to me that it is desirable to stick with one brand & type of lighting fixture, same tube length if possible, so that I can switch the tubes if I need to. When I started the 50/55 gallon, I toyed with the idea of getting a 48″ long light just to keep everything in one piece. Instead, I went with getting 2 fixtures of 24″ to make them easier to handle. I’m so glad that I did because now, all of my plant lights use 21″ tubes and that means I’m ordering and storing only 1 size of replacement.
It’s a good feeling now that all aquariums are functioning again as before the hurricane. No fish were lost, not even the solo blue tetra who decided to take a leap while I had the tank lid open, trying to help the gas exchange until the filters were working. My son noticed it on the tile floor, just as the cat noticed it (yikes) and I gently picked it up and put it back in the tank. No doubt there was some lint stuck to it but I felt it would be less harmful if I handled it minimally so just put it right back in. This fish has been swimming as before, grabbing food as before, so I think it’s just fine, ha.
Thanks again, you are always helpful and never judgemental. I appreciate the time you spend with these groups & messages.
Ciao, Beverly in Texas
Peace, please!
