Is RO water absolutelty necessary for Discus?
> I have recently splashed out (excuse the pun) on a Aqua One Regency 80 180l tank - i have planted it up and am in the process of fishless > cycling it. I would dearly like to keep around 3 discus…
I keep Discus - the Ph in my tank is 6.8 and I use R/O and peat in my Fluvol. So yours should be OK just remember with these fish you need to do frequent water changes. I do about 30% twice a week.
Plants I’ve had good success with in the warmer water Discus require are Amazon swords, Vallisneria, and Wisteria (they grow like weeds). I keep neons, danios, corydoras, and chinese algae eaters with the Discus. If you have room I would get at least five. I have one Discus that is a bit larger than the others and he bullies the younger ones a bit.
Discus are gorgeous and fun to watch and seem to thrive if you keep up with the frequent water changes and offer a varied diet. I alternate between blood worms, krill, daphnia, and beef heart along with Discus pellets.
