intro-My Koi pond story.

Hi everyone I’ve had My pond for about 3 years now and I’m obviously still a beginner at all of this stuff. I started with basically a garden pond about 7′x9′ and about 18″ at the deep end with a shallow bog area at the other end. All was fine for several months I started with a dozen feeder gold fish and then I added 3 11″ Koi and all were quite happy in their little jungle paradise the comets even gave birth and I soon had about 50 little ones swimming around with them. WARNING….. This is the official end of My warm and fuzzy Koi pond fairy tale. Then came the Thanksgiving Day Massacre. My wife came home and said wow what a beautiful bird as the great blue heron flew away with all but four of the babies in his big fat belly. And now the spending spree begins after meeting with Mr. Wu at Atlanta Koi and Garden (my koi zen master) I drained the pond finding the 4 babies hiding under a rock, pulled the liner and re-dug the pond deep enough to drown a heron. replaced the liner with EPDM 400.00 and a 4000 gallon bead bio filter and matching pump about 1000.00 and two motion detector sprinkler scarecrow thingies. 120.00 ….. and now I have six beautiful Koi that I only see when I feed them because of the spring algae bloom. Now I’m desperately trying to not spend 500.00 on the UV clarifier that I’ve been told is My only hope. I have cleaned the leaf debris and the dozen or so rocks that have fallen in the past year or so and done a couple PWC’s I’ve made a homemade skimmer that seems to be helping with junk on the surface. I’ve put in some submerged plants and a half dozen water lilies I have even tried bentonite clay. the water is getting a little better but I’m not there yet…… so anyway thanks for making it all the way through my rambling post and if anyone has any input you think will help I would really appreciate it thanks Mike
