Im sorry I have ADHD! brackish water set up
I started a brackish water tank with a 3/4″ bumblebee goby and a 1.5″ male guppy. They are in a 10 gallon tank. It has a small rock cave and a couple of plastic plants and a 5″ long piece of black rigid tube from an old canister filter (use as a hiding spot?) Im using a thin layer (1/4″) of small aquarium gravel as substrate. For filtration I am using an Aquaclear 100 or Mini with the sponge from an AQ30 and their bag of Biostone. I am not running any carbon. I also am using AQ powerhead 10.
PH is at 7.8. I dont know how it got that Alkaline but im told that where it should be for brackish as all my other tropical aquariums except the guppy tanks are 7.0-7.2. The guppy tanks are also high alkaline. Im was told that running a fast current in a tank helps bring up the PH because it makes the Limestone(buffer) that the county LI, NY) puts in the water evaporate. Is this true???
Salinity is at 1.006. Is this a good area to be in. I was told to put 2 TBSP of Instant Ocean per gal of water. I bought an IO Hydrometer and this is where its at.
The Goby seems to tolerate freeze dried bloodworms and wont eat tubifex worms. He loves live brine shrimp though! Are brine shrimp easy to hatch. The LFS said that the Brine will only live about 24-36 hours. I dont want to buy live shrimp everyday. any thoughts?
Sorry I ask so many different questions. even when my previous ones dont get answered right away. Its my adhd. I live my life like I ask my questions. I jump around alot. Its lets me have my own business and have 6 aquariums 5 dogs 15 fainting goats 25 chickens 2 pheasants 7 cats 3 hermit crabs all smack dab in the middle of NY suburbia!! Plus I cant sleep more than 4 hours a night LOL
