I know another pump question

Frank, When setting up your biofilter system, something to keep in mind if “dwell time”. Dwell time is the amount of time it takes the water that’s pumped into the biofilter to complete its cycle and exit the filter. You don’t want to push water through the biofilter at too fast a rate. If the water goes through the biofilter too fast, the bacteria colonies on the media won’t be able to consume all of the ammonia and nitrites from the water, so the water being sent back to the ponds won’t be as free of toxins as it should be. If that happens, the toxins (ammonia) in the water could eventually be to much for the beneficial bacteria to thrive in, and they may start dying off themselves. That’s one of the reasons you need to be sure you have enough biofiltration to handle the fish loads in your pond.
With biofilters, slower water flow (slower water = longer dwell times) is better than fast. Some ways to increase dwell time of the water in your biofilters would be to increase the size of the biofilter, …. add additional biofilter containers and split the flow of water from the pump/pumps between all of the containers, …. or just bypass part of the water flow around the biofilters.
