High pH and low KH.

pH changes over several days: 7/27 1 pm pH 9.0 7/28 8 am pH 7.7 7/28 noon pH 8.0 7/28 7 pm pH 8.0 7/29 8 am pH 7.5
So I have also tested the tap water (fresh, haven’t tried letting it sit for several days yet): pH 7.5, KH=2 degrees, GH= 5. So the water is not too alkaline, but somewhat soft, particularly for the KH. So based on your calcs i should supplement the pond water to double the KH and reach the range that you suggested. I assume that I should add a cup or so of baking soda or calcium carbonate over several days to increase KH?
But if water is not the issue, anyone have ideas on why a few fish (3- 5″ fish)every few weeks would disappear without a trace (no body parts, no obvious signs of predators, except for the bullfrog that showed up this year! & was captured and released miles away). Our pond store guy suggested setting up a camo hunters camera to capture a predator in action . . . If its a predator, could be maybe small heron, owl or hawk? (we have seen a few hawks(or maybe falcon) fly low through our yard and actually land on the fence in the back yard! our pond isn’t that big or deep: 6′X10′ so i’m not sure that it would be an attraction for that kind of bird. . .
