hi everyone, new to site…

Hi Dewdude; I don’t know how long you’ve had your fish, but they are just like any other animal. They may be too young yet, or they may just not be “comfortable” in your tank set up to be thinking about sex. You didn’t mention how large the tank was and how many other fish you have in there with them, so it’s difficult to answer.
As for the fish in the LFS (Local Fish Stores) you really cannot tell too much about the colors of the fish in those tanks since, in most cases, they may not be in good conditions to bring out their colors; they may not be fed right; and, most of all, if there’s a large turn around in the store, the fish may have just come from a rough trip on their way to the store. All of the above may make these poor fish not look up to their full potential. It is usually a good idea to ask how long the fish have been in the store. If they haven’t been there very long, shipping may be the reason for their appearance. Other than low long they’ve been in the store (..and hopefully you’ll get a truthful answer..)I would not trust any other information they might give you. Unless you are dealing with an exceptional LFS, most of the attendants have part time jobs for some spending money and really do not know a hell of a lot about fish.
Just my (experienced) opinion.
