Goldfish Question
Hi everyone,
Sorry to pepper you with questions recently. I do have one more that occurred to me recently and I thought this just might be the group to answer it.
I have a female common fantail goldfish. I think she is about two years old (I don’t remember exactly when I got her). She currently lives alone in my 29g aquarium and is about to get moved to a larger aquarium. She is about 7 inches now and so very ready to move!
I am wondering when goldfish reach their maximum size? I have never had such a large goldfish and do not know what to expect. I know how large goldfish get, but now how long it takes for them to get there. It seems like her growth in length slowed way down a while back, but she has filled out during the slowdown, I have noticed. The 29g has certainly gotten some ammonia in it because of the need to move her though I am doing water changes and I have enough filtration for an 80g aquarium trying to help her. I’ll keep limping it along until I get this move finished. She’ll be so HAPPY!!
I am wondering whether her growth is likely to have been stunted because she has been in the 29g aquarium this long? If I could have afforded a larger tank earlier, she would have been moved. I did look around for another home for her but only found places with other fish and knew that she did not do well with tank mates, even as a baby fish. She just freaks when something brushes up against her or goes near her in the water (except me sometimes). She needs to be a solo fish in her home.
Thanks for your opinions. Deb
