fancy goldfish..

Caroline,
I should have mentioned in my previous post… if you are new to fish keeping in general, you will need a master test kit (veteran fish keepers should have them too) so you can start testing your water, daily in a new tank, for ammonia and nitrite and be prepared to do daily PWC’s to keep these chemicals at low enough levels (usually below 1.0ppm) during the next couple of months while your tank cycles. If the goldfish lived in the 15G for a while and you used the filter system and gravel from it, that will help or possibly even have your tank fully cycled but only testing will know for sure. Once the tank is through the cycling process, then you can drop down to weekly testing until your fish reach full size and then you will have an established maintenance schedule to keep the water quality in good condition.
I would get the master test kit before the MelaFix… if money is an issue (isn’t it always… why can’t Bill Gates adopt me? lol). While Melafix certainly won’t hurt and if it’s a mild internal bacterial issue, it could help, Melafix is not the best cure for swim-bladder issues or digestive issues that usually cause floaty problems.
