Dying Fish, Cycled Tank, Red Gills?

What type of plants? How much lighting vs the size of the tank (WPG)? I would remove the dying leaves and any plant debris on the bottom, but try to get the plants going. Plants do help with water stability. As already mentioned the salt and/or carbon in filters may be hurting the plants. I have all of my tanks planted, use a plant friendly substrate (eco-complete or similar), no carbon, low to moderate lighting with plant friendly bulbs and dose with Flourish Excel occasionally and root tabs as need for root feeders. Fish & plants are doing well.
