Dying Fish, Cycled Tank, Red Gills?

I simply add the conditioner to the tank as I start to let the tap water enter the tank. I use about twice the recommended dose of Tetra Aquasafe, I add a full dose at the start, another half about half way through the refill and the last half at completion… overkill perhaps but it has worked well for me for many years. My filters stay on during this process so water is always circulating, if you have a HOB filter that can’t run while the water is low, you may want to manually stir the water or drop a small powerhead in the tank during the process.
In all reality the only advantage of a branded “Phython” is the ability to suck water out of the tank from your faucet (venturi), otherwise I just drain the tank with a hose out the window and refill using regular tubing connected to any faucet. I’ve never used the Python gravel vac, i vacum using a regular siphon and hose going out to the garden…
They truely make water changes a sinch, and in most cases, result in people doing more water changes which is always a good thing!
