It may help some… but if you have another established tank, simply sqeeze some of the mulm/dirt from your established filter media into the new filter, or even directly into the water. Repeat this every 3-4 days and it will be cycled rather quickly. Obviously test ammonia and nitrite to monitor the cycling process. Also try to add a pinch of flake food to the tank every day, this will also help, regardless of there being no fish in the tank.
