If you mean a bio-wheel DO NOT thoroughly clean or toss it! (Never do more than a quick rinse in tank water!) In my experience, if it slows down, the water flow might be impeded, either because the intake is blocked or the filter pad is clogged/dirty. Or if you have hard water, there may be build-up around the peg that seats the biowheel on the housing. Biowheels never need replacement unless they somehow sustain damage…
